Ranch
The Ranch is located just south of Sabinas,Coahuila Mexico.
About an hour and a half drive from Piedras Negras,Mexico.
This is the Carboniferous Region of Mexico known for it's
massive coal industry.
The topography varies from flat to rolling to rocky. There is an
ancient volcano that borders the south east corner of the ranch
and it makes a large flat plateau of volcanic rock that
encompasses most of the ranch. The eruption spewed rock and
lava for miles across the landscape and large boulders abound
throughout the area. This makes for difficult off-road driving and
extreme care must be taken if driving of off established roads.
The Sabinas River borders the northern part of the ranch and
adds some beautiful diversity to this desert region. Giant
cypress and pecan trees line the river and make for an eye
pleasing and historic view of Old Mexico. There are small lakes,
old coal strip mines along with numerous pilas dotting the
landscape that provide abundant water for the wildlife and cattle.
Fauna
Various desert plant species make up this region of Mexico
and when rainfall is abundant they can put on a dazzling
display of colors. The predominant shrub is black brush
followed closely by mesquite then grajaneo. Prickly Pear
and tasjillio make up a good portion of the cacti family. The
list of forbs and grasses are to numerous to list but are
widely dispersed throughout this region.
Whitetail deer are the main species of wildlife that inhabit
the brushland but this region is also home to
javelina,bobcat,coyote,and mountain lion.
